Suzy to add 40 new jobs in New Hanover County

Wilmington, NC - Market research methods and techniques are innovating rapidly to reflect consumer’s changing behaviors. Suzy is a real-time market research platform that aims to advance human understanding between consumers and enterprises everywhere, at the speed of culture. As Suzy continues its rapid growth, the company plans to add 40 new jobs over the next three years and establish its technology hub in downtown Wilmington, announced William Mansfield, Chief Technology Officer of Suzy.

“The old-fashioned way of focusing on volume and size as the primary driver for success is over. To build a company in today’s age, one must focus on quality,” said Mansfield. “Our new office in Wilmington will provide the foundation for our hybrid workforce to grow without sacrifice. I am excited to bring Suzy’s excellence to Wilmington and provide what we all desire: a hybrid workplace that cares about work-life balance. Wilmington has a uniquely talented workforce in place and offers an exceptional quality of life for those who are lucky enough to live here. And once you’re here, you don’t really want to leave.”

“I am thrilled that Suzy has selected Wilmington for its office expansion,” said Natalie English, president and CEO of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. “The lower Cape Fear region maintains a talented and diverse workforce combined with an outstanding quality of life and robust infrastructure network that continues to attract global companies and the top talent they need to succeed. Collaborative economic development efforts from organizations like WBD, WDI, the Network for Entrepreneurs in Wilmington (NEW), and the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) also help to make our community an attractive location for relocation and expansion.”

With $78 million in funding raised since the onset of the pandemic and two major product launches, Forbes recently named Suzy as one of America’s Best Startup Employers in 2021. Suzy has disrupted the standard marketing research pricing model away from cost per response to a SaaS offering which licenses to customers, providing on-demand insights with more flexibility and predictability. By integrating technology into the platform, Suzy delivers actionable insights much faster than any current alternative provider.

“Job seekers – especially millennials and Gen Z workers – are attracted to communities like Wilmington because of the area’s lifestyle and promising job growth. The community is tight-knit and locals are truly willing to go the extra mile to help out their neighbors. This is especially true for those who wish to launch or scale a business in the Port City,” said English. “The community is incredibly supportive of startups, entrepreneurs, and small business owners.”

Jim Roberts, founder of NEW, has been a longtime encourager of entrepreneurial growth in our community. “I am grateful that William chose to grow his Suzy tech team in the Cape Fear region.  This is such an exciting development for our local economy to add these high-profile tech jobs with great salaries and benefits.”

New Hanover County’s economy is diverse and flexible, fueled in part by tourism, film, a vibrant shipping industry, retailers, major airlines, and a rapidly growing innovation sector. This diversity is critical to reducing the potential negative impact of any future economic downturn.

“This announcement is a testament to the way our business community can come together in support of a company, and really a sector, that is of tremendous interest to Wilmington,” said Scott Satterfield, CEO of Wilmington Business Development. “We are very excited to be a small part of this effort and look forward to supporting Suzy’s growth here for years to come.”

“It is a strategic priority for New Hanover County to increase the diversity and number of high-quality jobs in our community," said Julia Olsen-Boseman, Chair of the New Hanover County Commission. “Suzy’s growth, bringing 40 good-paying jobs to our county, and creating its technology hub in downtown Wilmington will all help to strengthen and diversify our economy. We welcome them and look forward to their continued success in our community.”

Mayor Bill Saffo adds his welcome to Suzy, “This announcement provides evidence that our public investments encourage economic growth. We look forward to seeing Suzy’s employees strolling along our Riverwalk and going to concerts at the Live Oak Bank Pavilion at Riverfront Park.”

The average annual salary for the new jobs is $120,000, which is well above New Hanover County’s overall average annual wage of $54,891. Suzy will be leasing 12k square feet on the top floor of 319 N. Third Street.
