SUMMARY:2022 - Latin American Business Council Meeting - Purchasing power of our Latinx community: Rapidly rising and fueling our economy
DESCRIPTION:Please register to attend the first in person meeting of 2022 with the Latin American Business Council on February 9 from 5:30-7pm. Catering will be provided by Fabe's Charcoal Roasting Co. and margaritas will be available beginning at 5:30pm. The program will begin at 6pm with attendee introductions followed by a presentation from Dr. Edelmira Segovia.\n\nThanks to our DEI initiative sponsors Novant Health NHRMC\, First National Bank of Pennsylvania and Customers Bank.\n\nThis program will be presented in English.\n\n\n\nALL chamber members AND nonmembers are invited to attend this meeting.\n\n\n\nDr. Edelmira Segovia serves as Director of Centro Hispano under the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.  As Director\, she supports the growing number of Latinx students applying\, attending and completing degrees at UNCW\, maximizes the success of each student\, and most importantly\, provides a place where every student feels at home while striving for success. \n\n\n\nDr. Segovia is co-chair of the UNCW Latino Alliance of Southeastern North Carolina.  She supports the mission of the alliance in building a stronger network among people and organizations that serve the Latinx community in the region\, and empowering local citizens and organizations that serve the Latinx community by creating positive change in areas of education\, business\, health care\, safety\, and community building. \n\n\n\nIn 2020\, she joined the founding team of the Latin American Business Council of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce where she supports accessibility for established Latinx businesses in the region.  In this role\, she advocates for economic and public policy opportunities in a multilingual and culturally aware platform\, with equal access to all resources that foster economic growth\, success\, and integration of Latinx businesses and professionals into fabric of Southeastern North Carolina. \n\n \n\nShe serves as board member of the New Hanover Community Endowment a nonprofit that spawned from the sale of New Hanover Regional Medical Center to Novant Health\, and expected to fund education\, health and social equity\, community development and community safety projects in New Hanover County.
