DESCRIPTION:The vision of the African American Business Council is to strategically position black businesses for inclusion and success through opportunity\, education\, exposure\, entrepreneurship\, economic development\, and public policy advocacy. We are committed to leading\, educating\, and advocating to grow African American-owned businesses and to create and grow a thriving African American middle class in Wilmington.\n\n\n\nThe Wilmington Chamber's African American Business Council theme in 2023 is Moving Your Business Forward with Education towards Growth.\n\n\n\nOur co-chairs have outlined the following schedule of meetings and topics for 2023 below.\n\n  \n\n\n	August 16: Risk Assessment\n	September 20: 5 Cs of Credit\n	October 3: Intentional Collisions\n	November 18: Holiday Bazaar\n	December 13: Mental Health & Wellness \n\n\n \n\nAUGUST MEETING AGENDA\n\n\n\n11:30 AM - 12:00 PM - Lunch will be provided by Baby John's Bar-B-Que\, thanks to our speaker and sponsor\, Sowers\; networking and connecting\n\n12:00 - 1:00 PM - Introductions\, Guest Speaker\, Chamber Announcements\n\n\n\nAUGUST\n\n\n\nRisky Business: This presentation will consist of information on how our company\, "Sowers" can help identify risks associated with small business owners. It will identify and shed light on the external and internal factors which affect risk and situations. In this presentation we will discuss how we identify common warning signs for small businesses. Also as a thank you\, all registered attendees of the event will receive "Sowers" risk small business assessment tool and a free follow up consultation.\n \n\nSPEAKER\nShaquana Chapman is the CEO and Founder of Sowers. She is an alumni of North Carolina Central University where she studied a dual degree in pre-law and public administration. She is also known as a keynote speaker and business strategist with a background of over 20 years combined in corporate sales and leadership development. Her career knowledge is vast and expands over several industries including banking\, healthcare\, and finance.\n\n\n\nShe is passionate about helping her clients learn the risk management side of sales as well as helping them to develop stronger leadership strategies. As the CEO of Sowers\, she works with individuals and organizations to amplify their communication\, connection\, and confidence in assessing the risk of their businesses. Her desire is to assist and partner with companies so they can continue their vision of impacting the world.\n\n\n\nShe mentors her clients on possible business risks with passion\, guiding her clients to elevate their business strategies and vision to new heights. She engages groups from the moments she steps in front of them with her down-to-earth humor and compels audiences to laugh while they learn.
