SUMMARY:Public Policy Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Wilmington Chamber's Public Policy Committee monitors and advises the Chamber on legislative and regulatory issues at the local\, state\, and federal levels and promotes the interests of our membership. \n\n \n\nOur next Public Policy meeting on Tuesday\, June 28\, from 8:00 10:00 am at the chamber office downtown or via Zoom. \n\n \n\nThis month\, our attendees will learn more about the future of Medicaid expansion in North Carolina. Guest speakers include the following individuals:\n\n \n\nDr. Leighton Ku\, Ph.D.\, MPH\n\nKu is a professor and director of the Center for Health Policy Research at George Washington University. He has done extensive research on expansion and will share data on how Medicaid expansion can drive costs down. \n\n \n\nSharon Decker\n\nSharon A. Decker is COO\, Tryon Equestrian Partners\, Carolinas Operations in Mills Spring\, NC. Before Tryon\, Sharon was appointed Secretary of Commerce by Governor Pat McCrory and served in that capacity for two years. Decker started her career at Duke Power Company\, now Duke Energy. Over 17 years\, she became the youngest and first female vice president in Duke Power's history.\n\n \n\nState Senator Joyce Krawiec\n\nRepublican leader and champion for Medicaid expansion. As changes to our Medicaid program and federal incentives have changed\, Senator Krawiec believes now is the time to expand Medicaid to do things the "North Carolina way."\n\n \n\nState Representative Charlie Miller\n\nCharlie Miller has represented the 19th district\, including parts of Brunswick and New Hanover counties\, since 2021. Miller previously served on the Brunswick County School board. \n\n \n\nThe Wilmington Chamber of Commerce office is located at 1 Estell Lee Place\, Wilmington\, NC 28401. Our guests can park in our parking lot or at the Wilmington Convention Center parking deck. Our main entrance faces the Cape Fear River and is accessed by passing through the gate to our building's left.\n\n \n\nVirtual attendees will be expected to keep their cameras on during the meeting. Participants who turn cameras off will be removed.\n\n\n\nAll Chamber members are welcome to attend these meetings. There is no cost to attend. These meetings are not open to nonmembers.
