    The Education Assistant supports the education team in the implementation of education initiatives, including the docent program, Museum School classes, educational programs, curriculum, professional development, and outreach. This position oversees the daily operations of CAM’s docent program, including the scheduling of ongoing continuing education and training. The Education Assistant will develop strong working relationships with docents and education program partners with the goal of sustaining and growing a high-quality, visitor-centered docent program and active public tour program. This position will also work to maintain healthy and growing relationships with schools and community groups – growing tour revenue and keeping tours relevant to community needs. This position will be a motivated enthusiastic lover of art and art education.

    Duties/Responsibilities

    Organize monthly docent training meetings, set agenda, arrange speakers and prepare docents for tours, including supplemental materials and walk-throughs, communicate meetings, updates and tour needs on frequent basis.

    Recruit an active core of docents that reflects the exclusivity of our community and the students we serve. A special emphasis placed on growing diversity in our docent ranks and establishing Spanish language tours.

    Assist education team in planning and implementation of USCT sculpture docent team and university docent program.

    Coordinate with other departments for docent involvement and training opportunities (such as artist talks, classes, etc).

    Fill all tour needs with adequate amounts of docents and give tours when docents are unavailable.

    Work with colleagues to develop tours in accordance with the needs and interests of area teachers, students, and school curricula, as well as overarching educational goals and philosophies, including arts integration, the Community Resiliency Model, and Visual Thinking Strategies.

    Work with Visitor Services Engagement team and Education Team to develop creative public tours that draw new visitors to the museum.

    Assist Director of Livelong Learning and Director of Outreach and Family Engagement with education programs.

    Research and maintain current knowledge of national trends, strategies and best practices for museum and arts education and engagement, and best practices in field trip and teacher training programs at other museums.
    Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in education, art, or related field.

    Three or more years experience in education or program planning

    Self-starter with strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to think strategically.

    Excellent written and oral communication skills.
