I look forward to seeing more than 500 of you Thursday evening at our 159th consecutive Annual Meeting. The word consecutive matters. It is a reminder that the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce has served this community for 172 years. Since 1853, business leaders here have worked to strengthen our region and its economy longer than any other chamber community in North Carolina.
While we have not gathered every single year in the same way, we have made it a long-standing tradition to come together to celebrate progress and look ahead. The event has evolved over time. Today, we aim to create an experience that is engaging while clearly demonstrating the Chamber’s impact. That impact is made possible by many individuals and businesses whose contributions, at every level, move our region forward.
Each year, we recognize a business leader whose lifetime achievements have shaped our community. This year’s honoree, Chip Mahan, exemplifies that standard. His leadership and vision have been a catalyst for growth in the Wilmington region. Congratulations, Chip.
We are also honored to welcome Dee Ann Turner, whose career at Chick-fil-A has helped set the global standard for hospitality in business. Successful organizations, regardless of industry, understand the importance of making customers feel valued and well served.
Finally, I am grateful for the leadership and partnership of our outgoing chair, Jim Hundley. Leading a chamber of commerce is both rewarding and demanding, and it depends on strong, engaged business leaders. I am also thankful for the eight board chairs with whom I have had the privilege to serve during my time at the Chamber.
I look forward to the perspective and leadership Nicolas Montoya will bring as our next chair. We are supported by an exceptional Executive Committee, Board of Directors and, most importantly, a dedicated staff. I hope you will join us Thursday to celebrate their work and the future we are building together.
