Our analysis puts Wilmington at No. 19 among the top 20 metros where renters want to live. In fact, 2.1 people moved in for every renter who moved away. And where are they coming from? Wilmington's top origin city is actually Leland, while the top out-of-state origin city is New York. The Port of Wilmington will soon feature even more room equipped to temporarily store refrigerated containers. Last month, the N.C. State Port Authority Board of Directors voted to authorize phase two of its reefer yard expansion, a nearly $22.6 million project.

North Carolina ranks 20th among all U.S. states in a new rankings report, increasing its ranking by one spot from the most recent study. The 2021 Tracking Innovation report is the eighth such benchmarking report in a series first published in 2000. It was released this week by the North Carolina Board of Science, Technology & Innovation.
