2026 - Leadership Wilmington Alumni Council Day of Service with Canines for Service

This event is open to Leadership Wilmington Class of 2027 and all Leadership Wilmington Alumni.

Canines for Service is a local 501c3 nonprofit that trains service dogs for veterans with service-connected PTSD, MST, TBI, and/or mobility limitations at no cost or fundraising obligation to them. While we are based in Wilmington, NC, we do place our dogs with veterans anywhere in the contiguous US.

All dogs in our facility are a part of our service dog training program. It is critical to their overall wellbeing and their success in the training program that all of their basic needs (food, exercise, socialization, grooming, and a clean kennel environment) are met. Volunteers play a huge role in helping us to meet those needs efficiently. Tasks for volunteer shifts can vary based on the needs of the dogs in our kennels at that time, but will all be related to fulfilling those basic needs.

We ask that volunteers wear close-toed shoes and clothes they don't mind getting dirty/can move freely in. Tasks will be primarily indoors with some time spent outside.
