Public Policy Meeting
** Please note that the September Public Policy Committee meeting has been moved from Tuesday, September 22, to Tuesday, September 29.**
The Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce invites members in good standing to attend its next Public Policy Committee meeting on Tuesday, September 29, from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at the Chamber office.
As public comment continues on the proposed replacement of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, there are important questions about the project, the alternatives under consideration, the decision-making process and what happens next.
This meeting will give Chamber members an opportunity to hear directly from current and former NCDOT leaders and a former NCDOT Board Member. Speakers will provide context on the bridge replacement process, address key considerations and help separate the facts of the project from the speculation surrounding it.
Our guest speakers include:
Trevor Carroll, NCDOT Division 3 Engineer
Trevor Carroll serves as the NCDOT Division 3 Engineer, overseeing transportation projects and operations across Brunswick, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender and Sampson counties. Carroll joined NCDOT in 2010 after beginning his career in the private sector and has held a variety of construction and maintenance leadership roles, most recently serving as Deputy Division Engineer.
John Lennon, Former Member, North Carolina Board of Transportation
John Lennon served on the North Carolina Board of Transportation, where he gained firsthand experience with transportation policy, infrastructure investment and the state’s decision-making process for major transportation projects. He also served six years on the Wilmington Planning Commission, including as chairman, and has served on the New Hanover County Airport Authority and Global TransPark Authority.
Chad Kimes, Retired NCDOT Division 3 Engineer
Chad Kimes spent 33 years with NCDOT in engineering and leadership roles, including serving as NCDOT Division 3 Engineer from 2019 until his retirement. In that role, he had direct knowledge of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, including its condition, operations and long-term transportation needs, and played a key role in securing funding for repairs to the bridge. His extensive experience overseeing transportation projects throughout southeastern North Carolina gives him a unique perspective on the bridge replacement project and the considerations involved in planning for its future.
The Public Policy Committee serves as a forum for Chamber members to stay informed on legislative, regulatory and community issues affecting southeastern North Carolina’s business climate and economic competitiveness.
This meeting is open exclusively to current Chamber members. Advance online registration is required.Date and Time
