NHRMC Partnership Proposal Support
-
April 24, 2020
The organizations, companies, and individuals signing this letter are focused on supporting and building a strong future for southeastern North Carolina.
In this spirit, we are lending our support to the process undertaken by New Hanover County and New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) to explore partnership opportunities to help the medical center advance its mission of leading our community to outstanding health.
The process, begun several months ago to proactively evaluate how New Hanover Regional Medical Center could best adapt to changes in the healthcare industry and meet the needs of our rapidly growing region, has even greater significance and urgency today.
A strong and stable healthcare system is critical to this region’s well-being. We rely on it for medical care when needed, but also for jobs and support of our local businesses and community agencies.
The COVID-19 pandemic has put all of us on less stable ground. The financial challenges that once seemed distant are now at the forefront in our community. Thousands of our neighbors are suddenly unemployed and local businesses and agencies are struggling to determine a path forward with fewer resources. Meanwhile, NHRMC is losing millions on canceled procedures and increased expenses to safely care for patients.
We are fortunate to have options to consider that could help NHRMC obtain the support it needs to add the services, staff and technology required to keep pace with our community’s growth while also providing needed funding for programs that could help our region recover and thrive.
We encourage our local leaders and members of our community to carefully consider the partnership proposals received and all they could mean for our region.
As the COVID-19 pandemic has shown, hospitals are essential to our communities, and more vulnerable than many of us realized. Long-term strength is not guaranteed. Evaluating the proposals allows our community to take steps to ensure NHRMC and the region can recover from the impact of this pandemic and pursue a more stable, healthier future.
Each signatory below supports NHRMC’s efforts to evaluate and pursue what is best for healthcare in this region and ensure the hospital is positioned to advance care and meet the needs of the growing community.
Signed,
