• What Is Leadership Wilmington

  • The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce has been presenting the Leadership Wilmington program for 35 years, with over 650 graduates. Already existing leaders and budding community leaders and volunteers are encouraged to apply for this elite program.

For one day a month for 10-months, participants get an in-depth view of community issues, develop skills necessary to assume leadership roles, and are exposed to community involvement opportunities. Sessions include History; Arts/Culture; Public Education; Justice; Human Needs; Government; Business, Infrastructure and the Economy.

Leadership Wilmington provides class members with the opportunity to meet key community leaders. You will also work with your class on the community’s largest one-day volunteer program, Work on Wilmington. Work on Wilmington brings people together to roll up their sleeves and tackle community problems in just four hours. The results are amazing.

Participants are required to attend the two-day Opening Retreat on August 20-21, and nine (9) Class Days from Sept. 2020 – April 2021 on the Third Tuesday of each month from 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. (full day, including lunch) Attendance at all sessions is required. Graduation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 18, 2021.

Each session will be facilitated by key leaders, professionals, and LW graduates. And, you will be encouraged to speak freely from your experiences in political, social, cultural, education, and economic facets of the community, helping you to develop a deeper understanding of the community.

Those interested in the Leadership Wilmington program need to make a serious commitment. Employers must agree in advance to grant participants time off from their duties to attend the full-day session. Upon graduation, you will be presented with your personalized Leadership Wilmington certificate in an attractive frame suitable for display in your office. Leadership Wilmington graduates will receive membership in the LW Alumni network free for one year from graduation day.

Due to the economic impact of COVID-19, the tuition for the program has been lowered from $2,000 to $1,750 for the 2021 Class of Leadership Wilmington. This fee will cover the Reception, Opening Retreat, Class Day Luncheon, snacks, and program materials. Application deadline for the 2020-2021 Leadership Wilmington Class is Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.
